Russian media broadcast fake speech by Putin about evacuation of regions

The broadcast in question is a video of the Russian president, made with a kind of technology that allows the creation of fake multimedia content, but with an authentic look, which is the result of computer manipulation of sounds and images, known as “deepfake”, according to to the first investigations into the incident, reported by the Russian agency TASS.

The content of the recording consisted of an emergency speech by Putin, in which he specified that an immediate population withdrawal was necessary before Ukrainian troops entered those regions, announcing the application of martial law in the country for that reason. .

The Interstate Radio and Television Company (MTRK) also issued a statement regarding the falsification of the message, making it clear that the recording, as well as the information broadcast during the lunch hour, were “provocations”.

The war sparked by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022, plunged Europe into what is considered the worst security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).

The number of civilian and military casualties in the conflict is unknown, but several sources, including the United Nations, have admitted it will be very high.

Ukraine has counted on the support of Western allies in arms supplies, which have also imposed sanctions on Russian interests to try to reduce Moscow’s ability to fund the war effort on Ukrainian soil.
