The Ukrainian secret services claim to have intercepted a telephone conversation which will prove that it was the Russians who destroyed the Nova Kakhovka dam.
In the minute-and-a-half conversation, quoted by Reuters, two alleged members of the “sabotage group” spoke about the destruction of the dam.
“They [os ucranianos] they did not attack her. It was our sabotage group,” said one of the men in the conversation, described by Ukraine’s secret services as a Russian soldier. “They want to scare people with the dam,” said the same man.
It is also said in conversation that “thousands” of animals died on a “safari”.
The other man in the conversation expressed surprise that it was allegedly Russian forces that destroyed the dam.
Ukrainian secret services did not provide further details. The authorities will open a criminal investigation for war crimes and “ecocide”.
Hundreds of people were rescued from rooftops by rushing water on Thursday. The governor of the Kherson region said that 600 km² were under water.
