The forest fires that devastated 60,000 hectares in the northeast of Kazakhstan have caused the death of 14 people, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of this Central Asian country announced this Saturday.
“A total of 14 bodies were recovered,” the ministry said in a statement, quoted by the AFP agency.
The Kazakhstani authorities had already indicated yesterday that searches were underway for rangers trapped by the fires.
The situation is under control and houses are not in danger of burning, although 316 people have been displaced, the ministry said, acknowledging the difficulties due to high temperatures and wind.
More than a thousand people, mainly members of the Ministry of Emergencies and Defense, mobilized in the fight against the fire.
