Pope Francis, who is hospitalized after being operated on for an abdominal hernia, has already managed to get up, take a few steps and spend a few hours working, in addition to resting and praying, the Vatican said this Sunday.
The head of the Catholic Church prayed the Angelus in the chapel of the private apartment on the tenth floor of the Gemelli hospital in Rome, where he was admitted this Wednesday to undergo surgery.
Doctors advised against the 86-year-old pontiff from publicly celebrating the Angelus prayer from the hospital to avoid efforts that endanger the healing of the mesh that was applied to his abdominal wall during surgery.
According to the medical report released this morning, the Pope is still without fever and has undergone respiratory physiotherapy.
Before the Angelus prayer, Francisco watched the Holy Mass on television and received the Eucharist. Lunch was held in the company of doctors, nurses, assistants and members of the Vatican police.
The medical team recommended that the Pope remain hospitalized for at least the next week for his recovery to be successful.
The leader of the Catholic Church will be in Portugal between August 2 and 6 to preside over World Youth Day.
