Screams, moans… The strange noises of American Airlines planes amuse their passengers

During a flight from Los Angeles to Dallas in the United States, a passenger recorded curious noises emanating from the cabin speakers, similar to human moans or cries.

Confusing sound announcements. On September 23, travelers on an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Dallas in the United States had a very original experience: the announcement system, through which crew members can address passengers in the cabin, began broadcasting dozens of strange noises, which could resemble human cries of fear or pain.

“Someone on this flight has hacked into the announcement system and keeps making a sound that sounds like something between an orgasm and vomiting,” said one of the passengers, Emerson Collins, on TikTok. .

“It looked like someone had gastrointestinal issues or something,” the passenger later developed in an interview with CNN.

The crew between surprise and annoyance

The crew react quickly, wanting to be reassuring: “Ladies and gentlemen, we realized that extremely annoying sounds came out of the speakers. (…) Nobody likes it,” explained a stewardess through the same announcement system.

Another, visibly irritated, hypothesizes “a hoax”, but cannot be sure.

“I was like, ‘I don’t find that annoying, it’s kind of funny,'” Emerson Collins told CNN.

The commander also spoke to reassure the passengers: “Don’t worry, it won’t have any consequences on the flight.

A viral scene that reminds others

On the internet, the scene went viral and thousands of reactions accumulated. Some netizens were amused by the situation: “The plane is haunted,” wrote a Twitter user before sharing a GIF, an animated image taken from the film. ghost Busters Where Ghostbusters in the original version, and the famous phrase taken from the music of the film: “Who are you going to call?” (“Who are you going to call?” in French).

The phenomenon is not isolated. Other Internet users reported having experienced similar events on an American Airlines flight:

“My wife and I experienced this on an American Airlines flight in July. (…) It happened briefly three or four times at the beginning of the flight, then stopped,” writes Bradley P. Allen.

A simple “mechanical problem”, according to the company

The American Airlines company finally ruled on the issue when it was questioned by Newsweek magazine: “The announcement systems on board our planes are wired in such a way that there is no possible access from the outside (…) Our maintenance team thoroughly examined our aircraft and annunciation systems, and determined that the problem was a mechanical issue with the annunciation system,” said Sarah Jantz, a company spokeswoman.

Therefore, this creative theory from a netizen could not be confirmed:

“Planes hit the clouds and their screams are picked up by the announcement system. It seems pretty obvious.”

Since this video, at least two American Airlines passengers have reported similar noises. The problem does not seem to be resolved at the moment.
