A new face for one of the best-selling cars in France and Europe. Peugeot has just presented the restyled version of its second generation 208, launched at the end of 2019. A very popular model, already produced in more than a million copies, but not in France, to the chagrin of Bruno Le Maire.
Peugeot’s new stylistic codes
Thus we discover the new design of the versatile urban car. In particular, with a new front end that incorporates the latest Peugeot design codes, introduced in its latest redesigned models, the 508 sedans and the 2008 SUV, with the three long luminous claws under the headlights. And of course the new Peugeot logo.
As in phase 1, Peugeot has opted for yellow as the launch color, offered as standard to stand out in traffic. An “Águeda Yellow” that nevertheless seems a little less “girly” than the one offered for just over 3 years and that also finds a new “selenium grey”, for a total of 7 colors offered in all.
At the rear, the main change is more subtle, with the three claws on the lights changing from vertical to horizontal. “Composed of three elegant lines of LEDs that extend the black stripe on the boot lid, give more seating in the rear view and contribute to a perception of greater width,” says the Peugeot press release.
Few changes inside: the 10-inch touchscreen is now offered as standard, while a 7-inch has been fitted to entry-level versions so far. Be careful also: the front and rear parking assistance cameras go to high definition, a more powerful induction charger (15W instead of 5W until now) and more USB sockets, two in the front and two in the rear.
A range of 400 kilometers
But it is under the hood where we finally find most of the news. In its 100% electric version, the e-208 now offers 400 kilometers of autonomy (WLTP figure in the process of approval, Peugeot specifies, with the 51kWh battery) with a recharge that is limited to 100kW in a fast terminal.
Peugeot will also offer its new light hybrid engine in this 208: the 100 hp and 136 hp PureTech gasoline engines are associated with the 6-speed e-DCS6 electrified dual-clutch gearbox that incorporates a 48-volt electric motor . Which will potentially save 15% fuel and drive around town 50% of the time on electric, Peugeot promises.
A new offer that joins the two gasoline engines, with the PureTech 75 associated with a 5-speed manual gearbox and the PureTech 100 with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
