Japanese automaker Nissan announced on Friday the recall of nearly 700,000 vehicles in Japan for various manufacturing defects and warned that hundreds of thousands of units would also be affected abroad.
These various defects have so far not caused any accidents in Japan, the group said. They refer to units of its Note, Note Aura, Serena, Kicks and its Leaf electric car.
A total of 699,000 units of these models are affected in the country and many of them have several defects at the same time, a spokeswoman for the group told AFP.
Electronic and wiring problems
In detail, Nissan has recalled 484,025 units of its Note, Serena and Kicks models in Japan due to insufficient protection of their engine ducts, which could damage these covers and prevent the vehicle from starting.
Nissan also recalled 478,199 Note, Note Aura, Serena, Kicks and Leaf units across the archipelago due to an electronic control program that can cause vehicles to accelerate after stopping cruise control under certain circumstances.
The group also recalled 126,000 Serenas for a wiring problem and 6,434 Note Auras for a problem with the right headlamp.
Abroad, at least 749,000 vehicles will also be affected by recalls in their respective markets, according to this spokesperson, who could not give a more precise figure.
