The Japanese car manufacturer has specified that one of the two new models of electric vehicles already confirmed and destined for the European market will be manufactured at its factory in Sunderland, in the north of England.

All new models that Nissan launches in Europe will now be fully electric, the Japanese automaker said this Monday, which also announced that it plans to sell only electric vehicles on the continent by 2030.

“There is no turning back,” Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida said in a statement. “Nissan will be fully electric by 2030 in Europe – we believe it is the right thing to do for our business, our customers and the planet.”

Nissan stated that one of the two new electric vehicle models already confirmed and destined for the European market will be manufactured at its factory in Sunderland, in the north of England.

Harmonized strategy with partner Renault

The new goal formulated by Nissan to be fully electric in Europe by 2030 harmonizes the Japanese group’s strategy with that of its partner Renault, which plans for its Renault brand to be 100% electric on the continent in 2030. The two groups announced in July that They will close agreements for the renewal of their alliance, with the Japanese group’s commitment to invest up to 600 million euros in the future electrical entity Ampère of its French partner.

Competitors Ford and Stellantis also plan to have 100% of their vehicles sold in Europe be electric by 2030. Volvo, majority owned by the Chinese group Geely, has committed to being fully electric worldwide by 2030.
