Good news for French people who use the car to go to work. An amendment proposed by the centrist group LIOT that expands the number of beneficiaries of the 100-euro fuel check implemented in 2023 has just been maintained in the 2024 budget. Next year, 60% of workers will need their car to go to work who will be eligible compared to 50% in its initial version. The system will also be individualized: if a couple has two cars and both assets are eligible for subsidies, the household will receive 200 euros.
Amortizing this check of 100 euros over the 12,000 kilometers traveled on average each year by French drivers, this represents a discount of around 10 cents per refueling. In total, the operation will cost the State 600 million euros next year. Payment will not be automatic and recipients will need to go to the tax website to enter their tax number and license plate and then complete an affidavit before the amount is credited to their account.
The price of a barrel of oil below 80 dollars
This renewal of the fuel check occurs in a context of a drop in the price of a barrel of oil for several days, which has just fallen below $80. An evolution that seems abnormal, since the conflict in the Middle East raises fears of a supply shock. In reality, it is more of a demand shock that is occurring, for purely economic reasons, with the slowdown in activity in the world’s largest oil consumer, China, but also in Europe, where the German industry is in clear decline. and the effects of the political monetary crisis are just beginning to be felt.
If economic factors currently outweigh geopolitical ones, an intervention by Iran in the conflict between Israel and Hamas could have direct upward consequences on the price of black gold, especially in the event of a blockade of the strategic Hamas Strait.
