Are fuel prices on track to rise in 2024? Last week, diesel rose 2 cents to reach an average of 1.76 euros per liter in France.
Same trend for unleaded 95-E10: the latter increased 1.5 cents, to 1.79 euros per liter, according to the weekly report of the Ministry of Ecological Transition with prices as of Friday, January 26.
This week marks the second consecutive week of increase since January 12, with +3.29 cents for diesel and +2.5 cents for gasoline since mid-January.
A floor price that moves away
However, the price level remains relatively low in recent times, especially in the case of diesel: you have to go back to the end of July 2023 to find a price of -1.72 euros per liter, the minimum reached in mid January, before the increase of the last two weeks.
For gasoline, which approached 1.76 euros per liter at the beginning of January, we have to go back further, until the end of 2022, to find a similar amount.
An increase in oil prices in recent weeks.
Several factors may explain this recent increase, particularly rising oil prices. In the context of tensions in the Red Sea, North Sea Brent rose by $1.9 last week and a barrel was quoted at $81.8.
The movement of angry farmers does not seem to have had direct consequences on fuel supply so far. With the exception of the Lorient (Morbihan) depot, blocked by a joint action with construction companies on the issue of off-road diesel, at least until today or Tuesday, Télégramme summarized on Sunday afternoon.
