Sandero, Spring, Jogger: Dacia in great shape at the beginning of the year

With 122,284 registrations, new car sales in France increased by 9% in January. If the hybrid is on the rise, one brand seems to be in very good shape: Dacia. The Sandero surpasses the Renault Clio on a podium dominated by the Peugeot 208.

A very “electrified” start to the year. With 122,284 registrations, sales of new cars in France increased by 9% compared to the same month last year, including an increase in sales of 100% electric and hybrid cars, according to figures published this Thursday, February 1, by the Automotive Platform (PFA). ). And among the brands in good shape at the beginning of the year, Dacia.

The hybrid, the first engine on the market

A notable fact: hybrids have established themselves as the leading motor with 36% of sales (17% for non-rechargeable hybrids, 11% for mild hybrids and 9% for rechargeable hybrids).

Gasoline, without hybridization, is thus placed in second place, with 32% of sales, ahead of 100% electric vehicles, which represent 16% of the market. In the context of uncertainty around the new 2024 bond, deliveries have slowed down compared to December and a market share of 21%.

Diesel continues its free fall, with sales down 23% compared to January 2023 and a market share of 8%.

Peugeot and Dacia start strong

In terms of brands, Peugeot begins the year at the top of the market with a difference compared to last year’s leader, Renault. Dacia continues its strong advance and is approaching its parent company, with less than 1,000 units.

Taking advantage of the rise of hybrids, Toyota gained one position compared to its final ranking last year, rising to the fourth step of the top 5, ahead of Citroën.

The Sandero doubles the Clio

If we look at the most popular models, the Peugeot 208 regains its leadership position, surpassed by the Renault Clio in 2023. The diamond city car is even in third position, ahead of a certain Dacia Sandero.

The Romanian brand also places two other models in the top 10, the Duster, but also the Jogger, available in a hybrid version and thus confirming its great commercial success since its launch.

Also noteworthy is the presence of two Toyota models, with the Yaris and the Yaris Cross, seventh and eighth respectively.

The 208 also reigns over the electric ones

Among the 100% electric models, the top 10 is also dominated by the Peugeot 208. The lion brand’s city car is ahead of the Dacia Spring, which has lost its bonus since December 15. The 2023 bonus continues to apply to orders prior to this date of implementation of the environmental score. Enough to maintain the pace of deliveries at the beginning of the year.

This is also the case of the Tesla Model 3, which is taking advantage of this context and the launch of its improved version at the end of last year, to once again be ahead of the Model Y.

While we continue waiting for the decree that establishes the 2024 bonus, not yet published on February 1 of the new year, we will see how this electricity market evolves in the coming months.

If the release of new models, such as the Citroën ë-C3, were to maintain a certain dynamism, sales could slow down with the expected fall in the amount of the main purchasing aid in France. But also the end of this bonus for “made in China” models delivered after March 15, the deadline to benefit from it for orders prior to December 15.
