End of the insurance sticker on April 1: 37% of French people do not know it

From April 1, it will no longer be necessary to carry the insurance sticker behind the windshield or a paper receipt (or green card) to present in case of inspection, but few French people know this, after an investigation. carried out by the neoinsurance company Leocare.

The green card and insurance tag are being retired. As of April 1, it will no longer be mandatory to have proof of car and motorcycle insurance, nor to place the butterfly behind the windshield.

The French are not sufficiently informed about their insurance

However, few French people still know it: 1 in 3 (37%) are unaware of the application of this measure, according to a study* carried out by the neo-insurance company Leocare. A term “green card” that does not mean much to 17% of those surveyed.

But how can we explain this lack of information? 72% of French people believe that their insurance company simply did not inform them enough.

“The sending of the green card is often the only link between an insurer and its client and therefore not all insurers were really willing to this dematerialization,” underlines Christophe Dandois, co-founder of Leocare.

France is falling behind

For him, who highlights this insurance based on a mobile application, this end of the paper test represents “the visible part of the iceberg of insurance digitalization”:

“I have been working on this dematerialization for 6 years, trying to convince the ministries of Economy and Ecology,” explains Christophe Dandois.

In fact, France was an exception in Europe by being among the last three countries to require paper tests. A project to dematerialize the green card announced in 2019, but which, therefore, materializes five years later, with the generalization of the insured vehicle file (FVA), which will allow law enforcement agencies to quickly check whether a vehicle is really insured . This will also contribute to fighting fraud more effectively, reminds Christophe Dandois.

“Paper supporting documents were relatively easy to falsify; it will be much more complex with this computer file.”

An appreciated dematerialization

An interesting lesson from this Leocare survey is that the French are quite positive about the disappearance of the green card. Enough to reduce the risk of loss or theft of this document for 54% of them, promote the automatic updating of information for 52% or even reduce the amount of printed papers for 44%.

The same favorable feeling around other documents already available in the France Identity application, such as the driving license or the identity card, or soon the driving license.

Another expected consequence of the creation of the insured vehicle file: a more systematic control of the condition of a vehicle, in particular during a speeding fine. Enough to allow greater prevention, or even sanctions, while it is estimated that nearly 680,000 vehicles circulate without insurance in France.
