Less than three days after the technical inspection of the 2 wheels, it is impossible to know their price. A vagueness that illustrates the tense climate in which this new system will begin.
The main brands (Dekra, Autovision, Securitest, etc.) do not communicate prices, not even indicative. Each center freely sets its prices so you should contact them directly to get an idea.
Discovering the “mysterious” price
On the Autovision website, which will soon launch a specific site for its new dedicated Motovision brand, it is already possible to make an appointment and thus have a first overview of the prices.
In a first center consulted in the Paris region, it costs 59 euros per moped or scooter, 69 euros per motorcycle, quad or stroller.
Prices a little higher than those announced by the government, since the former Minister of Transport, Clément Beaune, had mentioned a price of 50 euros.
Centers not necessarily prepared
Second surprise, by contacting directly the center that offered these prices, the equipment to carry out these checks has not yet been received, which therefore cannot begin from April 15.
However, users don’t worry: this launch year only refers to category L vehicles whose first registration is before January 1, 2017. E, initially (until August 14) to those whose registration is before to January 1, 2017. before April 15.
That is, there can be no fine for not passing the technical inspection before mid-August, which will give the affected vehicles time to go through a center.
But it will also be necessary to carry out a technical inspection during the second-hand sale of a model more than five years old. Therefore, this year only models whose first registration took place before 2020 will potentially be affected.
Fear of retaliation
Also on the Autovision booking platform, we found slightly higher prices in another center in the Paris region: 72 euros for a bicycle, a scooter or a motorcycle, 75 euros for a quad or a stroller. However, by phone, the director of the center explains that he will wait until Monday to confirm these prices, for fear of reprisals from opponents of this new obligation.
“We regularly receive anonymous calls criticizing us for implementing this control, one sign in our center was tagged and another was recently blocked by protesters,” he explains.
A tense atmosphere, with new demonstrations planned for this last weekend before the official start of the technical inspection of category L. The director of this center, himself a motorcyclist, does not understand this protest very well: “We have to put things right in perspective “this price and I’m also a biker: if we compare it with a subscription to a streaming service and consider that it is the price to pay every three years, it doesn’t seem so excessive to me.”
Between 48 and 85 euros, without return visit
When testing at another center near Orleans, the lowest price observed for a bicycle was 48 euros, 63 euros for a motorcycle or quad and 68 euros for a car without a permit.
To set this price, several elements are taken into account: the investment made to acquire the necessary equipment and the various costs that the technical control center must face.
“With almost 800 square meters of surface, I have a monthly rent of 6,500 euros,” explains the director of a center in the Paris region. “Obviously it will be cheaper in a small city outside of a large urban area.”
Therefore, in certain centers the price could rise to almost 85 euros. This is a higher price than the average price observed last year for the technical inspection of cars, of 79.52 euros, but with strong differences according to the departments.
Last unknown: the price of the return visit. The first centers contacted mentioned a price of 20 euros.
