On the road to vacation, some people are sometimes too anxious to reach their destination. This is the case of this motorist who was intercepted last weekend by the Sarthe gendarmes, in the middle of a summer chase.
Their vehicle was struck at 234 km/h on a motorway limited to 130 km/h, the A11, near Courgenard (Sarthe), near Le Mans, they said in a post published on Facebook.
“Result: vehicle seized by the courts, license immediately revoked,” the post concludes.
Remember that, for exceeding the speed limit of 50 km/h, the offender is exposed to heavy penalties: a fine of 1,500 euros, withdrawal of 6 points from the driving licence, suspension of the driving licence for 3 years (without suspension or “white licence”), a ban on driving certain motor vehicles for a maximum of 3 years, possible confiscation of the vehicle if the driver is the owner and the completion of a road safety awareness course.
Another Cupra the next day at almost 200 km/h
After the Seat Leon Cupra on Saturday (a vehicle that has long been equipped with the gendarmerie’s rapid intervention equipment before the Alpine A110), this time it was a Cupra model that was seized the following day, this time at the Mussidan toll booth (Dordogne).
The driver, a Monegasque, had just been hit at 199 km/h on the A89, our colleagues at France Bleu Périgord explain. As expected, still exceeding the speed limit of 50 km/h, his licence was confiscated and the vehicle was towed away, impounded pending a court decision.
Since 2018, the Cupra brand is separated from Seatbut still within the Volkswagen group. The vehicle seized by the gendarmes, a Formentor SUV, was launched on the market in 2020. It was then the first new Cupra model, which was joined by the Born urban car and the 100% electric Tavascan SUV, and which also continues to offer versions of Seat models. (León and Ateca currently).
