Fuels: Diesel prices at their lowest level in two and a half years

Diesel and petrol prices have seen their fifth consecutive week of falling average prices at the pump in France. For diesel users, this is the lowest price recorded since January 2022.

A significant drop. Fuel prices have again shown a downward trend last week, according to the latest weekly statement from the Ministry of Ecological Transition with prices as of Friday, August 16.

Diesel is currently trading at an average of 1.6448 euros per litre, or 1.6 cents less than the previous week. For unleaded petrol 95 E10, the average price was 1,762 euros per litre, a decrease of 1.3 cents.

Fifth week of decline for the two main fuels consumed in France.

Diesel at its lowest level since January 2022

At 1.6448 euros per litre, diesel is thus at its lowest level recorded since the beginning of 2022, falling below the minimum levels recorded in May 2023 (1.6555 euros per litre) or September 2022 (1.6593 euros per litre).

We must therefore go back to 14 January 2022 to find a diesel price at the pump of less than €1.65 per litre on average in France.

For gasoline, at 1.762 euros per liter last week, you have to go back to December 15, 2023 to find a lower price, at 1.7614 euros per liter.

How much do I save with a full tank compared to last summer?

During the school holidays, and compared to last summer’s prices, and more specifically to the second half of August, the savings at the pump are not insignificant.

A 50-litre tank of diesel would cost 91.68 euros on 18 August 2023, compared to 82.24 euros today, or 9.44 euros less.

In terms of petrol, the same 50-litre tank cost 95.69 euros, compared to the current 88.10 euros, a difference of 7.59 euros.
