The last trip of an American president to Moscow dates back to July 2009, when Barack Obama went to the Russian capital for a three -day visit. Donald Trump has already moved there, but never as president of the United States.
The summit between Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart in Alaska resulted in any specific announcement about the war in Ukraine. Donald Trump said there is “very little” points to be resolved without announcing an agreement.
“We had an extremely productive meeting, and we agreed many points,” he told the press along with the Russian president but without delivering details.
“There are very little left, some are not very important, but one of them is probably the most important,” added the president of the United States without saying which.
For his part, Vladimir Putin said that “the security of Ukraine must be guaranteed”, evoking an “agreement” found without detailing it. “We hope that the agreement we have concluded (…) open the way to peace in Ukraine,” said the Russian president along with his American counterpart, ensuring that Russia is “sincerely interested in finishing” in the conflict.
The two leaders, who spoke for almost three hours in a military base in Alaska, did not take questions from the many journalists who came to cover the summit.
