The Stellantis factory in Sochaux (Doubs) will hire 450 temporary workers to increase production of its new Peugeot 3008 and 5008 electric vehicles from November, management learned on Tuesday.
Announced on Tuesday at an extraordinary meeting of the Social and Economic Committee (CSE) of the site, a new night shift “of around 450 positions” will be established from November 4. The recruitment of as many temporary workers as possible is required “from now on”, stressed the management in a press release.
The new equipment will boost the factory’s daily output to “more than 1,000 cars, compared to the current 800 or so,” a spokesman for the site told AFP.
Produce more to achieve commercial success
This is in response to the “commercial success” of the new Peugeot E-3008 (100% electric and hybrid) produced in Sochaux and which has registered 50,000 orders in two months in Europe, as well as the start of production of the E-5008 which will be launched on the market from mid-September.
Stellantis Sochaux has not been working at night since April 2023. The site currently has 600 temporary workers, for a permanent workforce of 5,500 employees. The CFE-CGC section welcomed “good news for our site and the employment area” which will allow “a less pronounced increase in our suppliers, although with vigilance over the supply of components”. This measure is “not very enthusiastic” for the CGT, because it does not include permanent contracts and will not put an end, according to the union, to the “extension of hours” of daytime shifts.
