Diesel and gasoline prices continue to fall

The price of diesel, which continued to fall last week, is at its lowest level in two and a half years. As for gasoline, this has not happened either since the end of government rebates in December 2022.

Fuel prices continue to fall at the pumps. Diesel was quoted last week at 1.6345 euros per litre on average in France, one cent less than the previous week, according to the latest statement from the Ministry of Ecological Transition published on Monday, with prices halted as of Friday 23 August.

Unleaded 95-E10 petrol was at 1.7515 euros per litre, i.e. 1.1 cents less.

This is the sixth consecutive week of decline in the prices of the two most consumed fuels in France.

Gasoline prices will return to their previous levels by the end of 2022

Diesel prices have thus fallen to their lowest level in two and a half years. You have to go back to January 14, 2022 to find a price lower than the current price.

In the case of gasoline, we now have to go back to December 2022 to find a price lower than the current level, at 1.7515 last week. In fact, unleaded 95-E10 is below the minimum recorded in December 2023, when the average was 1.7614 euros per liter.

To find a lower price, we now have to go back to the end of the government bonus, which subtracted 10 cents from the price of a litre at the pump, and which was added to that of Totalenergies, for the same amount. On 30 December 2022, petrol cost an average of 1.64 euros per litre, before ending at 1.83 euros at the beginning of January.
