A preferential fuel rate at Totalenergies if you subscribe to its electricity and gas offer? This is what the company will offer its customers in France from the start of the school year in September.
“From 2 September, all private electricity and gas customers of Totalenergies in France will benefit from a maximum price of 1.94 euros/litre instead of 1.99 euros/litre for all fuels at the pumps,” the group said in a statement.
A fairly symbolic roof (for the moment)
Since February 2023, in a context of high fuel prices, Totalenergies has applied a cap on its fuel prices of 1.99 euros per litre at all its service stations in France, including on motorways.
Although fuel prices are currently at a relatively low level, this ceiling is intended to protect the purchasing power of the French in the event of a further increase in prices at the pump. Excluding motorways where fuel could still exceed €2 per litre, this measure remains, for the moment, rather symbolic: since July 2022, average prices in France have remained below this €2 threshold.
Will the maximum limit of 1.94 euros per litre potentially be more attractive? Actually, not always looking at the recent period: average diesel and petrol prices have only exceeded this level a few times and have barely exceeded this level since the beginning of 2023.
As of August 26, 1,000 of the 3,300 Totalenergies stations in France will still be affected by this limit (with at least one fuel priced at more than €1.94 per litre), the statement said. These are “mostly stations located in rural areas and on motorways, where fuel supply costs are higher for logistical and operational reasons”.
The commitment to a maximum price of 1.99 euros per litre for everyone throughout the country remains in place.
How to benefit from it?
Totalenergies is calling for “a new sustainable and innovative commercial offer (…) taking advantage of the fact that it is the only major energy company that is present in all the energies of the daily life of the French: electricity and gas at home, but also fuel and electricity for their car,” the statement continued.
To benefit from this limit, it will be necessary to present the “Club Card”, the Totalenergies loyalty card, the maximum price of which “will be immediately applied to the receipt”.
From 2 September, it will be necessary to update the “Totalentreprises Electricité & Gaz” mobile application and activate the “fuel advantage” that will be offered. Those who do not yet have this “Club Card” can request it through this same application, with a physical version sent by mail and an electronic version available immediately and which will be sufficient to benefit from this guarantee.
