Diesel at 1.63 euros per litre and petrol at 1.75 euros: average fuel prices are currently at their lowest level in more than two years, after six consecutive weeks of decline. Enough to save between 7 and 8 euros on a 50-litre tank, compared to the prices observed at the end of August last year.
“We often criticise our service stations for increasing very quickly and decreasing less quickly. This summer we have seen that we are also very reactive to the decrease,” explains Francis Pousse, national president of service stations and new energies at Mobilians.
A situation that affects most of the country’s stations, although there are some exceptions:
“There is competition at stake and French broadcasters have played the game, except for the small broadcasters who have bought stocks at a slightly higher price and which must be used up before they go under,” said the man who represents nearly 5,400 broadcasters, not including large-scale distributors, in France.
Good news for the start of the school year, but is it here to stay?
Although we must always be cautious before predicting the evolution of fuel prices, we can currently show some optimism:
“A dollar less on world markets means a few cents less at the pump a few weeks later”
