The deputies denied Monday to include in the French law the European date of 2035 for the prohibition of the sale of new thermal vehicles, which must replace the maturity of 2040 acted so far by France.
The government officially wanted to transpose the date of 2035 to the French law, through a bill that includes various provisions to adapt French law to European law. This date is imposed on France under the principle of primacy of the European Union Law (EU).
But the deputies did not listen to him from this ear and spoke to eliminate the article containing this date, although with justice, in a very little hemicell. 34 Deputies voted for this abolition, mainly the national demonstration, and 30 against (Renaissance, environmentalists, rebel France in particular).
“For the most modest households, the purchase of an electric car represents a cost that is quite uninquerable,” said Deputy Rn Matthias Renault. “The European automotive sector, at this stage, is not ready for this transition,” he added.
Macronist deputy Danielle Brolebois, with the opinion of the government and the rest of her group, also pointed out discussions in Brussels, and the “review clause” scheduled for 2026 to make a first electrification evaluation. According to her, nothing presses to transpose this date to the French law.
“Matter” of the sector
But the Minister of Industry and Energy, Marc Ferracci, defended him the objective of 2035, who “launched the entire sector” automotive and “does not ask” to question.
The manufacturers resemble “flexibility,” he said, in particular in the fines that could be directed to them in 2025 in case of breach of the objectives of reducing CO2 emissions.
According to him, a “legitimate” request given the “great electrification efforts,” according to him.
Until now, the prohibition of the sale of new thermal vehicles in 2035, emblem of the ambitious measures of the European Green Pact (Deal Verde), has not been the holder in Brussels.
But the pressure increases on the side of the political class and manufacturers, facing the sales of electric cars that are skating and China’s competition.
At the end of January, a vast consultation was launched with car manufacturers, and an action plan will be presented in early March to help them approve the electrification limit, announced the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
