It was in Nanterre, in the Arena of the Defense of Paris, which Byd has chosen to reveal its first urban electric SUV, baptized “Atto 2” in front of a large massif of journalists, influential and distributors.
4.30 meters long, 1.80 meters wide, 1.60 meters high, aesthetically, this compact SUV by byd respects the codes of the genre. Its autonomy, a little more than 300 kilometers, is not the most notable element, while the manufacturer promises to “change the situation of SUV of segment B”.
The main asset of Atto 2, estimates that Emmanuel Bret, deputy director of Byd France, is “its type of battery.” Since 2020, the manufacturer has manufactured its own batteries, called “Blade” and has decided to bet on LFP (Lithium-Fer-Phosphate) technology, while most European manufacturers have set their sights on NMC (nickel-manganis- chemistry-cobalt).
Atto 2, byd’s cheapest car in France
“Our LFP battery does not contain rare metals and has optimal security, does not explode and is not burned in case of accident,” says Emmanuel Bret.
Another advantage, and not least: “In terms of costs, this allows us to practice very attractive prices,” continues the deputy director of Byd France.
As a result, Atto 2 is now offered in France from 28,999 euros. It is to go out with the cheapest car marketed by Byd in France. It is also 7,000 euros less than one of its rivals in segment B, the Peugeot E-2008, even if it can benefit from the ecological bonus, unlike byd.
The number 1 of the Electric Chinese wants to hit prices strongly, while fighting to win in Europe. 50,000 cars registered in 2024, far from the wave of tides. The manufacturer was held in his career for the customs tasks imposed by Brussels, but also due to the lack of electric market breath.
Less electric, more hybrid
“The speed of electro-movalility is not the same in France and in Europe as in other countries, Emmanuel Bret says. It is for this reason that we arrived not only with 100% electric technology, but we are also increasingly betting on the hybrid “.
At the beginning of 2026, ByD will market its atto 2 in a hybrid version. This is, without a doubt, the main strength of the manufacturer, we are slipped, “to be able to make cars in just 18 months to adapt as quickly as possible to order.” The group will also continue its offensive in prices, with a model of less than 25,000 euros, which is expected this summer in the old continent.
