The foreigner Minister, Manuel Valls, urged car manufacturers on Sunday to “act”, believing that “several thousands” of cars were rolling in Guadalupe with failures in the Takata Airbags brand.
“I release a free warning to the manufacturers and the entire chain, I am thinking in particular the technical control,” he said in front of Manuel Valls Press, visiting Guadalupe, after a meeting with victims of these defective airbags.
“Several tens of thousands of cars”
“There are several thousand, if not several tens of thousands of cars that, in Guadalupe, continue to conduct and represent a danger,” the minister continued, invoking the “absolute urgency” to replace them.
“Everyone is placed at their responsibilities, manufacturers and technical services. Everyone must now act,” said Manuel Valls.
The Japanese manufacturer’s airbag scandal Takata, which has since been bankrupt, has shaken the automotive sector since 2014: due to a gas that is becoming bad in warm and humid climates, as in Guadalupe, they run the risk of exploiting projecting pieces in the drivers.
“This is the first time that the State recognizes us as a victim,” Bruno Guerin reacted, whose 26 -year -old son, was fatally affected by a piece of airbag takata during an accident in May of 2023.
President of the Advairbag Victims Association, now he hopes “to obtain a Parliamentary Investigation Commission.”
“There are many (motorists, note) that are still not necessarily aware, must stop,” said Raïssa Lancrerot, who suffered “two transplants” after being seriously touched in the face in 2021.
“We will see how we can communicate much better, alert, touch people beyond communication campaigns,” said Manuel Valls, remembering the inspection mission launched by the minister responsible for transport, Philippe Taboot.
Several dead
Maître Charles-Henri Coppet, who accompanies the victims and families of victims in several overseas territories, praised “a very constructive exchange.”
“I think Manuel Valls understood the anguish of the Guadeloups and that he will ensure that other means for the supervision of the manufacturers are granted (…), the motorists and the distributors,” added the lawyer.
In France, 29 accidents linked to these airbags were identified, causing 11 deaths abroad and one in continental France, according to the Ministry of Transportation.
But according to Coppet, only in Guadalupe, it is suspected that the defective explosions of the air bag have left “10 dead and 14 injured.”
After numerous complaints presented, all Guadeloupe archives have been centralized in the prosecution of Pointe-à Pitre and are now treated by a single investigating judge.
