Bonus, CEE, local bonds: What helps do you have the right to buy an electric car?

If public authorities are less generous, there is still help to help people acquire an electric, new or used car. And some can be combined.

Like a tray. After the acceleration after the pandemic, the sales of new electric cars marked the step last year. A trend that continues this year: according to the latest figures for the Association of European Automotive Manufacturers (ACEA), the new electric cars weigh only 15% of the total record. A figure certainly increased by 34%compared to January 2024, but a market share that remains far from those of hybrids (34.9%) and gasoline models (29.4%).

Therefore, the issue of purchase help makes more sense than ever, as the UFC said that Choisir a few days ago. Last year, according to Avere figures, 76% of new records registered in France had benefited from a bonus. However, this support for public authorities seems less and less generous.

What help can you have today to acquire an electric car?

A brushed but still in force

As of last December, the bonus conditions were reviewed down. There are only 4,000 euros maximum for people whose revenue from reference taxes do not exceed 16,300 euros. Beyond that, it falls to 3000 and then 2000 euros.

In addition, it no longer refers to all new vehicles: they should not exceed 47,000 euros and are subject to environmental criteria.

However, this bonus always has the merit of existing unlike Germany, for example, where it was brutally eliminated at the end of 2023. The bonus is also cumulative with local aid.

Local help numerous but opaque

Metropolises, the regions offer many aid to help in particular the most modest to finance their purchase. Eligibility conditions often overlap those of the bonus and both can be combined.

As for example, in Grenoble: the metropolis offers help of up to 3,500 euros for the most modest and cumulative with the bonus of a new car. Therefore, this gives the right to 7,500 euros in total help (under certain resources).

However, the offer of your community is not easy. A governmental site, jachangemavoituit.gouv.fr, is strong to identify them. But it is also better to verify in the communities sites. For example, help for the Bordeaux metropolis on this site is not indicated, but the latter offers one and even quite generous, particularly 6000 euros (for a fiscal income of reference per share of less than 7,100 euros).

Also verify the conditions in the different sites of the communities, even if you can expect the distributor to sell the vehicle to guide it.

Also keep in mind that local aid is also mainly valid in used vehicles, less expensive to buy.

Energy Economics Certificates (EEC)

This is the novelty of the last weeks. This device was extended to the automobile sector. Renault and Stellantis groups have chosen to implement it, Volkswagen also announced their deployment in their Volkswagen brands, VW Utility, Audi, Skoda and Cupra. Therefore, many models are worried.

This financial assistance applies to the purchase of a vehicle, but also to rental offers of more than 24 months, and accumulates with the ecological bonus, all without income conditions.

However, the amounts are not huge: between 300 and 525 euros for an individual, but that reduces the invoice. Keep in mind that in terms of local aid, quantities are more interesting for professionals in utility vehicles.

Fiscal aid and credits for the terminal

All professionals recommend it: you must first recharge at home to limit the increase in the invoice. The UFC that Choisir underlines in its study that recharges in public terminals this time increases the cost of possession of the electric vehicle by 544 euros on average per year.

There is a tax credit to help install a terminal, which can cover up to 50% of the cost.

In addition, electric charge networks on public roads are among the most competitive, with a wide variety of prices, explains a professional. The latter advises to find out about subscriptions to the various networks that can reduce prices per kWh. But, again, you have to find out a lot.
