The Japanese automotive supplier Jtekt wants to eliminate 197 publications in two of his French sites, near Lyon and Dijon, this company linked to the Toyota of the Japanese car manufacturer announced Wednesday. Jtekt’s management confirmed its employees on Wednesday that he wanted to eliminate 85 stations in Chevigny-Saint-Sauveur (Côte-D’or) and 112 in Irigny (Rhône).
The objective of this plan is to “optimize the production activity and restore competitiveness in the medium and long term of the company in France,” said the team manufacturer in a press release. JTEKT manufactures management systems and bearings, especially for Toyota, its main shareholder. It has 5,300 employees in Europe, including 1,400 in France.
“Unprecedented crisis”
The company doubts the “unprecedented crisis” that is happening the European automotive industry, with a medium mastization production in factories and forecasts in the support. Other manufacturers of large equipment such as Continental, ZF or Forvia have already announced waves of positions for the same reasons.
“If Jtekt Europe has been able to absorb the economic fluctuations of recent years, thanks to the support of its shareholder, the worsening of the crisis and the contraction of orders books (…) now impose a reorganization to restore the competitiveness and viability of its activities in France,” said the company.
The group had already announced in 2024 a project to restructure its activities in Europe, in particular through the sale to a German group of four bearings, including two in France (in Vierzon, in Cher and Maromme, in Sena Marítima). JTEKT intends to guarantee reorganization in Chevigny and Irigny “in a socially responsible environment and in consultation with all interested parties,” said Jtekt Europe’s executive director Yannick Lacour. The Plan also establishes the modification of 32 employment contracts and the creation of 11 new jobs.
