This Wednesday, October 1, marks the kick again for purchase assistance for new electric cars in France. In addition to the ecological bonus (which is now under the name “Explore private electric vehicles”), models with a battery produced in Europe can benefit from additional aid of at least 1,000 euros.
In mid -September, ADEME (Environmental and Energy Management Agency) published a first list of eligible vehicles, with some inconsistencies, including models sold to many more than 47,000 euros, the roof to benefit from this aid, as for the ecological bonus, with also a mass of walking order that should not exceed 2.4 tones.
Help that can reach 1,400 euros
Another subtlety that had not been observed at the beginning, this battery bonus is not alone and for all it is set at 1,000 euros. Within the Volkswagen Group, with the VW brand, but also Skoda, Audi and Cupra in question, the aid will be 1,400 euros for “precarious” households (revenue from reference tax (RFR) less than or equal to 16,300 euros), 1,000 euros for “modest” households 16,300 and 26,200 euros) and 1,067 euros) for other “modest” homes (RFR between 16,300 and 26,200 euros) and 1,067 euros) for other “modest” homes (RFR between 16,300 and 26,200 euros) and 1,067 euros) for other “modest” homes.
If we can surprise ourselves by slightly higher help for households without resource conditions, the idea remains to improve the current ecological bonus: total help will amount to 5,600 euros (4,200 + 1,400) for “precarious” households, 5,200 euros (4,200 + 1,000) for “modest” homes and 4,200 euros (3,135 + 1,065) for other homes.
These variable amounts are also explained by the change in bond financing, which is no longer directly feed on public finances, but through the energy saving certificates system with associations that will be established between energy filming (EDF, for example, for the Volkswagen Group) and car manufacturers. In Renault, this battery bonus will be rather around 1,200 euros (with total help between 6,360 and 4,826 euros) and in Stellantis we should remain in additional help of 1,000 euros initially announced by the Government.
Few eligible models
The cars of the French manufacturers eligible for this new help are feasible with the fingers, or almost: in Stellantis, there are, for example, 5 models: the great versions of autonomy of Peugeot E-3008 and E-5008, Citroën C5 Aircross and Opel Granland. Its battery is held in Doubrin, in northern France. Fiat 500 Electrics is also eligible, with batteries assembled in Hungary, but they are very minority in the current offer, Stellantis acknowledges.
In Renault, for the moment there is only one eligible model with the scenic in its great version of autonomy and with batteries of Poland. The French group hopes impatiently the increase of the river of its gigafactory in Douai: “We are working hard for the R4 and the R5 to have French batteries for the end of the year,” said a spokesman. Therefore, the device is underway for the cells produced in Douai, an administrative process that can take several months.
According to our estimates, only 1 in 10 eligible vehicles for this battery surprise is today a French brand. A battery bonus that must first concern only 7% of the electric cars sold in the new market, but that must accurately encourage all brands to locate the production of batteries in Europe.
In Volkswagen, Id.3, Id.4, Id.5 and ID.7 are eligible. We also find the Skoda Elroq and Enyaq and in Audi Le Q4. In Cupra, the only eligible model, the car of the city born, is no longer offered with European batteries. But see with the actions of the dealers who can still have an eligible version for sale. There is also a good part of the Ford Electric range, with Puma Gen-e, Explorer, Capri and E Tourneo.
What is a European battery?
Although most manufacturers are providing Asia today, a production sector for electric cars in Europe is developed. An emerging sector, hence the few models eligible for this new help to begin. To benefit from this cousin, the cellular production site of the battery composition must be located in the European economic area.
