The first electric Ferrari, scheduled for 2026, will be a four-seater coupe with more than 1,000 horsepower and promises a range of 530 kilometers, the brand announced on Thursday. Called simply “Elettrica”, this sports car will be aimed in particular at customers “who only want to drive electric cars but want to live the Ferrari experience”, explained Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna during a presentation at its Maranello factory.
“It is an expansion (of the range), not a transition” towards electric, stated the head of the Italian brand.
Ferrari already sells almost half of its cars in hybrid versions, but has not yet made the move to electric, several years after Porsche, Lamborghini, Lotus or the fast Rimac. Ferrari management revealed the car’s architecture on Wednesday night, featuring a very low driving position on an aluminum chassis with a large motor at each wheel. The price of the car should be around 500,000 euros, according to the manufacturer.
Expensive development of technical innovations.
The Elettrica promises to be fast (0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, 310 km/h top speed), but the choice of a four-seater model places it behind some of its competitors. The classic Ferrari lever on the steering wheel will be used in this model to choose between soft or sporty driving, modulating the power of the engines and the control of the suspensions. In memory of the large gasoline engines, Elettrica proposes to simulate gear reduction, but also to replace its roar with the amplified sound of the electric motor, to “give information” to the driver about the feel on the road, explained Gianmaria Fulgenzi, Ferrari product director.
“It’s like choosing between a sailboat and a motorboat: both are exciting but in different ways,” he added.
The brand internally assumed the costly development of most of the technical innovations, in particular that of batteries, to “maintain its know-how and remain competitive,” stressed Gianmaria Fulgenzi. The final model should be presented in early 2026. Ferrari will have to give details about its strategy for the coming years on Thursday morning to hundreds of investors and financial analysts invited to Maranello. It is about protecting its important margins (23.4% net margin in the first half, or 837 million euros) in the rapidly changing automotive and luxury sectors.
