A Model Y for less than 40,000 euros: Tesla launches the version in France “Standard” of its best-selling SUV

In France, the Model Y now starts at 39,990 euros with a version “Standard” more affordable, maintaining a range of more than 500 km. Its price, bonus included, would thus remain below 37,000 euros.

After the United States, Tesla lowers its prices in Europe. Three days after the release of the versions “Standard” of its Model 3 and Model Y in its country of origin, the American brand has just updated its catalog in France.

The Model Y is now available from 39,990 euros, the lowest price without including bonuses ever offered by Tesla for this model. Model 3 “Standard” It has not yet been confirmed for Europe.

Produced in Berlin, the Model Y should logically be able to benefit from the ecological bonus (or “EEC bonus” for energy saving certificate”), of at least 3,180 euros, or a final price of 36,810 euros. Enough to potentially support sales that have been in free fall since the beginning of the year in Europe, but which began to recover in September, particularly in France.

Services one level below

this version “Standard” Logically, services and equipment are cut to offer them at this more affordable price.

Good news in terms of autonomy, Tesla announces 534 km according to the WLTP standard, or 34 km more than the basic version offered so far, the version “Propulsion” that comes out of the catalog and was exhibited for 44,990 euros.

The rest of the range remains unchanged and takes the name “Premium” for versions “Great autonomy”in propulsion at 46,990 euros (622 km) and in all-wheel drive at 52,990 euros (600 km). The Model Y Performance also maintains its price of 61,990 euros (580 km).

Battery version “Standard” Indeed it would be small in size, with 69 kWh. But Tesla insists on improving efficiency, particularly with new 18-inch wheels, which allow it to maintain more than adequate autonomy and therefore even progress compared to the version. “Propulsion”. The charging power also seems to be slightly lower, with a maximum of 225 kW, compared to the 250 kW of the other versions.

Color options are still quite limited, with gray as standard and white or black as options. For the color, blue or red for example, you have to upgrade to higher finishes.

On the Model Y, the design changes are significant: more LED strips at the front and rear and redesigned shields. Interior of both models in version. “Standard”The seats are cloth and no longer leather. The touch screen on the back is also gone.

What competing models?

Although we can expect a larger price drop, in the end we found few competing models that show more than 500 km of autonomy at such prices.

If we look at Tesla’s great global rival, BYD, the Seal U SUV, with 500 km of autonomy, has a starting price of 42,890 euros.

Another Chinese brand, Xpeng, offers its G6 SUV from 46,990 euros, with 525 km of autonomy. A model that should soon also benefit from the bonus with the start of production in Europe.

As for the French brands, the Peugeot e-3008 (526 km) starts at 43,590 euros and the Renault Scénic in the long-range version (623 km) starts at 46,990 euros.

At Volkswagen, an ID.4 with a 77 kWh (566 km) battery has a price from 45,990 euros and a Skoda Enyaq 85, with the same battery, from 46,400 euros.

Compared to the Tesla Model 3, we can also mention the latest Kia EV4, which is offered from 42,890 euros with the 81.4 kWh (590 km) battery. It is the Korean brand’s first electric car produced in Europe, with the ecological bonus, but also the battery premium. Finally, a Hyundai Ioniq 5, with an 84 kWh battery, starts at 48,800 euros.
