The Dacia Sandero, the best-selling car in France in January

With more than 6,500 units sold in January, the Dacia Sandero is the best seller on the new vehicle market in France, ahead of the Peugeot 208 and the Renault Clio.

The best-selling new vehicle to individuals in Europe in recent years, the Dacia Sandero held first place in the overall sales ranking in January in France, according to the latest figures published by the PFA on Wednesday, February 1.

With 6,562 copies sold in the first month of the year, the most popular model of the Romanian brand from the Renault group effectively rose to the top of the ranking. Ahead of the Peugeot 208, current champion and with 5,933 sales in January, and the Renault Clio, with 4,971 units.

This is not the first time this has happened: in January 2021, for example, the Sandero had already surpassed the Peugeot 208, but the latter ended the year at the top of this general sales ranking.

The ranking takes into account sales to individuals, but also to companies or short- and long-term rental companies, adding demo vehicles.

The reasons for success

If its price increased last year, the Sandero continues to stand out as the cheapest new car on the French market, with a price that currently starts at 11,490 euros.

Beyond its price, the Sandero also benefits from the success of its crossover version, the Sandero Stepway, which accounted for nearly two-thirds of sales last year. The third generation has also turned its back on Diesel by offering a gasoline-LPG bi-fuel alternative. A good success too since this engine represents about 40% of sales.
