Germany releases funds to acquire Israeli missile shield

The Bundestag’s budget committee has approved a first tranche of funding for Germany to equip itself with an Israeli anti-missile protection system as part of its rearmament.

After only a few months of talks with the United States and Israel, Germany will have the Arrow 3 anti-missile shield. This anti-missile system, which costs a total of four billion euros, is equipped with radars, launchers and guided missiles capable of destroying targets. beyond the atmosphere.

This project was revealed by the German press at the end of March. It has received the approval of Israel and the United States whose components equip this device. This election had received a mixed reception in Europe, especially in Paris, for a non-European election. Lieutenant General Ingo Gerhartz, head of the German air force, justified that “the Arrow 3 is the most relevant system for the threats that hang over the European nation.”

Developed by the Israeli IAI with Boeing, Arrow 3 is capable of intercepting ballistic missiles at altitudes of more than 100 kilometers and with a range of up to 2,400 kilometers. This is the first time the Arrow 3 would be sold to a foreign country.

This decision by Germany is a new blow to European unity in the field of armaments. Berlin, although Dassault’s partner in the Scaf aircraft of the future program, has already bet on 35 US F-35 fighters and has chosen the GE engine to power Airbus’ Eurodrone.

As for the MGCS, the Franco-German tank intended to replace the Leclercs and Leopard 2s, nothing has been done yet. Emmanuel Macron must go to Germany to talk about it, but for now the file seems compromised.
