Carrefour, Action, Nike… Several shops looted during the riots

During the riots that have taken place in recent nights in several French cities after the death of Nahel, several stores have been looted and vandalized, whether they are large distribution stores or specialized in prêt-à-porter.

The nighttime riots affect a growing number of stores in the Paris region and in other parts of France. During the night of mardi à mercredi, the premiere after the death of Nahel, they were notably concentrated in certain quarters of the Hauts-de-Seine, in the Île-de-France, and consisted of three deaths and distant faces with law enforcement. From now on, the violence translates into looting and acts of vandalism against posters of various kinds.

Large retailers heavily affected

Several large retail stores have been attacked in the last two nights. This is the case of the Action store in the Beau Sevran shopping center, in Seine-Saint-Denis, which was set on fire last night before people entered the center until morning to loot the posters in the center. Another Action store was also looted in Montigny-le-Bretonneux in the Yvelines, again last night.

Other hard discount brands were affected, such as Aldi, whose store in the Saint-Paul shopping center in Montpellier was robbed, as were those in Romainville and Aulnay-sous-Bois, in Seine-Saint-Denis. Looters also entered Lidl stores in Tours, Wattrelos (burnt-out supermarket near Roubaix) and Saint-Herbain (near Nantes).

Hard discount brands are not the only retailers to have been affected, as Carrefour sites such as Stains in Seine-Saint-Denis have also been looted. The general director of the group, Alexandre Bompard, went on Friday morning to be “together with the Stains teams that are on deck to manage the emergency.”

In Seine-et-Marne, the Croix Blanche shopping center in Mée-sur-Seine, where there is a Carrefour City, was burned down last night. On the Le Mans side, the Carrefour Sud shopping center was looted but still open to the public on Friday. Contacted, the group was unable to give us estimates of the financial damage and the number of sites affected, but says it is working to ensure the safety of its employees.

Ready-to-wear brands also targeted

The rioters not only attacked food businesses but also entered clothing stores. On Thursday night, they forced the Nike brand to enter the Halles forum, in the heart of Paris, taking advantage of several of them to steal objects.

A few meters away, they broke the window glass of the Zara store located on rue de Rivoli.

Also in the Parisian suburbs, the Foot Korner store in the Evry (Essonne) shopping center was robbed.
