Following the alleged sabotage of Nordstream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea, Danish police said on Tuesday they had received reports of unauthorized drone flights near gas fields in the North Sea, following similar incidents on the Norwegian side.
According to the specialized publication Danish Offshore Industry, drones have been observed near the Roar gas field, operated by the French group TotalEnergies, more than 200 km from the west coast of Denmark.
Incidents of this type already reported in a week
This is the second time in a week that such incidents have been reported. thursday the daily Ekstra Bladet reported “unauthorized” drone activity over the Halfdan B field, also operated by the French giant. When questioned, the group referred to the Danish authorities.
The group assured that it had taken “the necessary measures in relation to (the) security procedures”.
Reinforced security around infrastructures
With the alleged sabotage of gas pipelines connecting Russia with Germany in its exclusive economic zone, Denmark has raised the level of security around its energy infrastructure. Neighboring Norway, now Europe’s top gas supplier, has followed suit, seeing its oil and gas facilities as a potential prime target.
To justify increased security in the sector, Norwegian authorities cited an increasing number of drone sightings near oil installations.
