Zoom asks its own employees to return to the office

The American videoconferencing specialist wants its employees to come to the office more.

Zoom summons its employees to return to the office. The American company, behind the video conferencing software of the same name, is asking its own employees to reduce their teleworking hours, reports the BBC. Employees who live within 50 miles of a company office will be forced to return there at least two days a week, and the group says it now favors a “hybrid approach” to office presence.

However, the group had stated in the past that it would allow its staff to work remotely “indefinitely”. Having become one of the essential software for teleworking, Zoom today has some 8,400 employees, more than half of them in the United States. According to figures from Wall Street JournalAs of September 2022, 75% of Zoom employees live outside the company’s offices and only 1% regularly attend them, with the rest having negotiated medium-term agreements.

end of the pandemic

This new policy will help the company to put itself in a “better position” to “continue to innovate and support our global customers,” justifies Zoom, whose growth has slowed considerably since the end of the health crisis. The massive return of employees to their offices marked the end of Zoom’s state of grace, especially as its competitors have also invested heavily in the video conferencing sector, notably Microsoft through its Teams software.

The American company recently announced a 15% reduction in its workforce and significant salary cuts for its top executives.
