After approximately two hours of videoconference discussion this Sunday, October 5, LR parliamentarians decided: they are mainly favorable to a government participation in the Sébastien Lecornu government.
“The LR parliamentarians gathered on Sunday afternoon expressed a lot in favor of maintaining the participation of the Republicans in the government,” the party said in a statement.
Before adding: “Without this decision, in fact, government formation would be impossible, which would aggravate the institutional and financial crisis that threatens our country, and would open the door to an impossible march in power.”
According to our information, 33 participants in the meeting were favorable when they speak and 7 shared their opposition.
A participation that is not “one white”
The LR warns, however, that this participation is “demanding” and that “it is not a white sow.” “Safety and immigration orientations are also in the right direction, but they must be specified,” said the party in the press release. “Republicans will be very attentive to the legislative texts that will be presented.”
They also announce to present the Prime Minister “next week”, “concrete proposals to build a parliamentary agenda” on issues “of economies, fight fraud, the valorization of work against assistance, security or the fight against immigration.”
During the LR meeting, a disagreement occurred between the Chief of the Bruno Retilleau party and the leader of deputies Laurent Wauquiez. On the one hand, the Interior Minister of resignation argued to participate in the government, fearing to see the right considered “responsible chaos” if the Executive came to leave. On the other hand, Laurent Wauquiez believed that “the conditions were not met” for such participation.
The Republicans and Bruno Retailleau, who went to Matignon at the end of the meeting, had increased pressure in recent days, deplorating that some of their demands were not heard, especially about immigration, security and fall in public spending.
The announcement of a first part of the government is expected this Sunday, October 5 at night, BFMTV learned from concordant sources.
Sébastien Lecornu, who is expected on Tuesday at the Assembly for his general policy statement, is threatened with censorship on the left and the national demonstration.
