The economy seems to be stagnant. “At 99, the indicator calculated from the responses of business leaders from the main market sectors lost one point. It thus fell just below its long-term average (100), the lowest since April 2021. This The fall is explained in particular by the deterioration of the economic situation in the manufacturing industry and in services”, underlines the statistician.
In industry, the business climate deteriorated sharply to 96 points, that is, five points less on a monthly basis, “mainly penalized by the balance of opinions on order books and past production.”
In services, the indicator lost two points by one less (100) “and returned to its long-term average, due in particular to the drop in opinion balances regarding activity.”
Strong deterioration of the work environment
In retail, the business climate remains almost stable at 105 points, “above its long-term average.”
“Finally, in construction, the business climate improves a little this month, due to the rebound in opinion balances on recent and future activity,” details INSEE.
With 101 points, the labor climate indicator has deteriorated notably compared to July. He lost five points, “it is his lowest level since April 2021.”
“This deterioration is due, in particular, to the fall in the balance of opinion on the future evolution of the active population in services (excluding temporary work agencies) and, to a lesser extent, to the fall in the balance relative to the evolution of the active population, both in this same sector and in the manufacturing industry”, explains the institute.
