BRICS welcome six new member countries

Iran, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates join, as of January 1, 2024, the group of emerging countries that want to gain influence in the world.

The BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) will expand their group and invite six new states to join them.

Iran, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates join, as of January 1, 2024, the group of emerging countries that want to gain influence in the world.

An agreement has been reached between the bloc’s leaders meeting at a summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, and the formal invitations are due to be released on Thursday.

Such an openness could allow the group to carry more weight in an increasingly polarized international scene, in which Beijing and Moscow seek to form a counterbalance against the West.
