Double punishment for Trenitalia, the Italian railway company that operates the Paris-Lyon-Milan line in France with its Frecciarossa high-speed train. The huge landslide that occurred on Sunday in the Maurienne valley caused the suspension of his two daily round trips (4 trains) to Milan.
But that is not all. The very strategic Paris-Lyon axis is also affected. In fact, the carrier is currently unable to send its trains to its maintenance center located in Milan.
A suspension of Paris-Lyon from Monday
“The closure of the line between Italy and France does not allow our trains to pass through the Milan workshops for maintenance. For security reasons the Paris-Lyon trains: 6650, 6647, 6654, 6651, 6656, 6655 will not run from from 4 /09 until further notice”, we can read in X (ex-Twitter).
“Our fleet of Frecciarossa trains that run in France and between France and Italy must periodically pass through the maintenance workshops near Milan for security reasons. The closure of the Paris – Milan line makes maintenance of this fleet technically impossible. Consequently , the service between Paris and Lyon will be suspended as of Monday 09/04, pending the reestablishment of international service”, reads the company’s website.
In fact, it is impossible to buy any tickets to Lyon on the company’s website from September 4th. The same message is displayed: “solution not available at the moment on the chosen date”.
ticket refund
And the carrier can not do otherwise. “The technical characteristics of our trains do not allow us to carry out maintenance in other workshops,” adds Trenitalia.
“We want to apologize for this particularly penalizing situation, you will receive a communication by email during the day,” continues the company questioned by a client.
For affected customers, Trenitalia promises a refund within 24 hours if the ticket was purchased through trenitalia.com, the Trenitalia mobile app, Trenitalia boutiques or the automated terminals in stations.
Contacted by BFM Business, Trenitalia did not respond to our requests for clarification.
It must be remembered that in Spain, for example, Renfe’s competitors (the equivalent of SNCF) can have access to their technical centers for the maintenance of their trains, which does not happen in France within the framework of opening up to competition . .
