Health insurance: the government foresees a 3.2% increase in spending in 2024

This Monday, the government announced the guidelines for the 2024 Social Security financing bill.

The Government expects spending on health insurance to increase by 3.2% in 2024, parliamentary sources told AFP. This figure was communicated to the parliamentarians, from the majority and from the opposition, gathered this Monday by the government to present the guidelines of the Social Security financing bill (PLFSS) 2024.

According to several parliamentarians present, the government aims for a 3.2% increase in the national health insurance (Ondam) spending target in 2024. “We have a PLFSS that should make it possible to land after the Covid years and what” costs, which has made it possible to greatly support health agents in the face of the epidemic”, estimated the deputy (Horizons) Frédéric Valletoux, considering that “this landing is necessary” after the increase in expenses linked to the pandemic.

“Its framework is austerity”

“We are not really talking about income, but mainly about reducing expenses,” lamented PS deputy Arthur Delaporte. The government believes it can make money from fighting fraud, but “we know it’s not much,” he added. “Its framework is austerity,” denounced the LFI deputy, Hadrien Clouet, in a video broadcast on the social network X (formerly Twitter). “They confirmed the idea of making patients pay a little more for medications and consultations,” he said.

The Government has already indicated that it wants to double the excess of medicine boxes paid by social security beneficiaries to 1 euro, while maintaining a maximum limit of 50 euros. “The multiannual financial trajectory planned by the Government” was very clear, modern MP Cyrille Isaac-Sibille told AFP. “It would be good if the government presented us now with its general health strategy,” he added.

An elected representative of the majority regretted that the Government gave “the impression of having given up on the fight against smoking and alcohol” during his meeting with parliamentarians. “That would be dramatic,” he judged. The Minister of Public Accounts, Thomas Cazenave, the Minister of Health, Aurélien Rousseau, the Minister of Health Professions, Agnès Firmin Le Bodo, the Minister of Solidarity, Aurore Bergé, in particular, participated in this exchange with parliamentarians, an innovation called “accounts of Ségur”.
