The Anti-Fraud Agency (DGCCRF) announced this Thursday that it had identified four sports betting advice sites that offered false “advice”, warning against the practices of these “predictors” that have spread in recent years on the Internet.
The General Directorate of Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control supervised in 2021 and 2022, in collaboration with the National Gaming Authority, the practices of sites that offer advice on online sports betting.
“Of the 11 companies inspected, 4 of them were in violation for having stated that a product or service increased the chances of winning in games of chance, or for breaches of pre-contractual information provided to consumers,” indicates the DGCCRF in a press release. release.

Fraud Repression, dependent on the Ministry of Economy, specifies that it has transferred the files of these four companies to the courts. “Some websites also complied with the rules during the investigations and others stopped functioning,” adds the DGCCRF.
These “prediction” sites have multiplied in recent years, particularly since the health crisis of 2020, a year that was “a turning point for gambling and online gambling,” recalls Fraud Suppression.
According to their research, to attract gamblers, “tippers” display on websites or social networks “a luxurious lifestyle supposedly achieved thanks to their winning bets, when in reality it is obtained thanks to the money raised through subscriptions.”
“By wrongly suggesting an increase in prizes thanks to their advice, they deceive consumers,” underlines the DGCCRF, which warns players about these practices and assures that “special vigilance will be maintained” during upcoming global sporting events, including the Olympic Games. and the Paris Paralympic Games in 2024.
