“The infernal bottle”: a children’s game withdrawn after the discovery of “inappropriate” cards

Lansay announces that it will stop marketing the children’s version of the game The infernal bottle after the discovery of cards “not suitable for children” from 8 years old. Alerted by “shocked” parents, the manufacturer mentions “a production error.”

“Reveal your secrets or dare to live new experiences”: inspired by “truth or dare”, the “children’s” version of La Bouteille infernale promised “400 challenges, each one more improbable than the last” for ages 8 and up. But parents denounce the presence in the box of this board game of “problematic” challenges, inappropriate for children.

In a video viewed more than 300,000 times on Tiktok and 500,000 times on X (formerly Twitter), a young woman alerts parents. “Look at the new game my sister bought my nephews,” she explains. “It looks like a normal game, it is clearly marked that it is for children from 8 years old.”

According to its description, the game offers innocent challenges such as “singing Brother Jacques while hitting” or “draw the outline of each player’s feet.” But in the middle of the cards, this Internet user discovers challenges such as “pretend to kiss someone with your tongue for 40 seconds” or “lick clay spread on the neck of a player.” Or this surprising question: “Has anyone ever seen you naked, other than your parents? If so, tell us.”

Lansay invokes a “concern for production”

Alerted by “shocked” parents, Lansay, the French company that markets The infernal bottle, informed BFMTV.com that the game “would be immediately removed from the market.” According to her, “several challenges from the adult version of this game were inserted into the 8+ version during production.” At the same time, a version intended for people over 16 years of age is well marketed, “without any filter.”

The company, which recognizes “a production concern”, announces that it is ending its marketing.

Lansay is a French company founded in 1972 and specialized in the production of toys and board games. They claim that “they develop fun products that respect educational and family values.”
