The general director of Intersport, Jacky Rihouet, wants to sell around thirty of his stores, located mainly in the northwest of France, to the large distribution group Schiever, according to the competition authority.
Intersport, the second player in the distribution of sporting goods in France behind Decathlon, is, like Système U or E.Leclerc, a cooperative of nearly 300 entrepreneurs, each of whom owns one or more of the 800 specialized stores of this brand. .
Jacky Rihouet, director of the Toussports holding company and CEO of Intersport, is in the process of selling 20 Intersport stores and five Intersport outlets that he owns, according to a Competition Authority publication published online on November 2 and discovered by the site l ‘Informed.
First phase of the exam
This represents almost the entire Toussports holding company owned by the 64-year-old businessman, whose term at the head of the cooperative should end in 2025, according to l’Informed. In addition to the Intersport stores, Schiever could also take control of four Blackstore ready-to-wear stores and two Go Sport stores.
Present mainly in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, Schiever operates in particular food distribution brands such as Auchan, bi1, Maximarché and Proximarché, as well as DIY, decoration and gardening brands such as Weldom or Bricoman.
The Competition Authority has opened a first phase of examination of the operation, with a maximum duration of 25 business days. If at the end of this first examination doubts persist regarding the risk of harm to competition, the Authority may decide to open a second, more in-depth examination phase, which may last up to 65 additional working days.
