Quebec businessman Daniel Langlois, pioneer of 3D technologies at the company Softimage, died on Friday with his partner in a car accident in the Caribbean, the artist’s former press secretary confirmed on Sunday.
Missing for a few days, police identified the couple on Saturday as the occupants of a car found burned the day before near the town of Gallion, in the south of the small island, local media reported.
A scientific and technical Oscar
Asked by AFP on Sunday, Dominica police did not respond. The Canadian government, for its part, indicated that it was “aware of the alleged death of two Canadian citizens in Dominica”, without, however, confirming their identities.
Founder of the company Softimage in the 1980s, Daniel Langlois made his fortune developing cutting-edge 3D animation software used in numerous Hollywood hits such as Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Star Wars and The Matrix. In 1994 he sold his company to Microsoft and three years later received a scientific and technical Oscar, according to his foundation’s website.
In recent years, Daniel Langlois had created a luxury hotel in Dominica with his partner where he was recently awarded an award by the government for his contribution to the development of the island.
