The Altice Group Workers’ Union in Portugal (STPT) once again requested the presence of the executive chairman at the collective bargaining agreement negotiations, to clarify the news of the possible sale of the company.
In a statement sent following the fifth negotiating session on the Altice Portugal (ACT) collective bargaining agreement, which took place on Thursday, the STPT said it had pushed for the participation of its Executive President (CEO), Ana Figueiredo to the next meeting. , on January 5, to clarify the news of a possible sale of the company, adding that the person responsible is “unwilling” to go to the negotiating table.
“When a company is sold, it is common for employees to experience uncertainty about the future of their jobs and positions. It is therefore essential that those responsible for the management of COMEX communicate with employees in a clear and transparent manner and communicate the plans for the takeover. future of Altice Portugal,” the union stressed, adding that “the possible sale to an investment fund entails the immediate risk of restructuring and dismissal of employees.”
Employee representatives recalled that they are confronted “daily” with news about the desire to sell Altice Portugal, in order to reduce the group’s debt to shareholders and bondholders, which approaches 60,000 million euros, and they fear that the change in business strategy will impact the company’s financial stability, jeopardizing opportunities for professional development.
At the last meeting, a meal allowance and a special meal allowance of 9.60 euros were proposed, 200 promotions and progressions, a free communication package in 2024 and 2025, the commitment to analyze issues of professional careers and salary update criteria, update of 1.5% in the Salary Table and a value of 1.5 euros per day as compensation for additional costs when teleworking.
According to the union, the executive committee said it believes that workers in this latest matter are “duly compensated, because work tools, such as computers, free Internet access and even the opportunity to join Meo Energia at a lower cost, are perfectly rewarding . because they are assigned by the company”.
Thus, the STPT considered that “the possibility of reaching an agreement with the Executive Committee on the proposal and concluding a possible agreement is remote.”
