Dairy giant Lactalis announced on Monday a 32% increase in the price of milk it pays to breeders and in the process demanded from big retailers an increase in the selling price of their products.
The owner of the Lactel brands, president of Roquefort Société, indicated that he had reached an agreement with Unell (National Union of Breeders Distributors of Lactalis) on the price of milk paid to associated producers, which is close to 500 euros/ 1,000 liters, 32% more than the same period in 2021”, for the fourth quarter.
Double the electricity bill
Lactalis, in full negotiations with supermarkets, also calls for “new and necessary price increases for our dairy products” to reflect the explosion in industrial production costs (transport, energy, packaging).
The company argues that its tariffs in France will increase by 18% in 2022. “The year 2023 promises to be even more difficult, in particular on the energy issue in which the group plans to almost double its bill to more than 1,000 million euros. . “says Lactalis.
In early September, the government called on large retailers to accept, within the framework of negotiations with food manufacturers, price increases requested by producers.
Lactalis has 85,000 employees in 84 countries, 266 production sites in 51 countries for a turnover of 20 billion euros, according to figures on its website.
