The number of new companies in France increased for the fourth consecutive month in September, driven by the commerce, catering, real estate activities and construction sectors, INSEE reported on Tuesday. Compared to August, the increase has slowed, however, with 1.5% additional creations in a month, against a 2.1% increase in August, according to a figure revised by the National Institute of Statistics. Last month, a total of 91,961 new businesses were registered, including 56,206 micro-enterprises created by self-entrepreneurs.
The million mark must not be crossed in 2022
On the other hand, the number of new companies in the transport and storage sector decreased (-5.5% compared to +9.0% in August), which had experienced strong growth during the health crisis thanks to delivery activities at home, as well as in support businesses (-1.1%).
In the last 12 months, between October 2021 and September 2022, the number of creations fell by 0.5% year-on-year. The number of new traditional companies decreased much more in the period (-10.7%) than that of new self-entrepreneurs (-0.8%), but the creation of companies increased strongly (+5.8%). With 789,348 companies created in France during the first nine months of the year, creations are unlikely to exceed one million by the end of the year, which had been close to 2021, a record year in this area.
