Italian and European travelers are bracing for a Black Friday with the transalpine air traffic controllers’ strike expected to result in the cancellation of hundreds of flights from most major airports. As in April and July, they demand better wages and working conditions.
Air France, RyanAir also affected
The company ITA (formerly Allitalia) has already announced the preventive cancellation of more than 200 national and international flights. But other companies such as Air France, British Airways, Lufthansa or Ryanair will logically be affected.
ITA says it hopes to transfer 20% of passengers whose flights are canceled to “alternative solutions” without specifying which ones.
Consequences at other airports
Due to the rebound effect, the airports of Zurich, Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam… could also be affected. Last September, more than 2,400 air routes in Europe were canceled due to French air traffic controllers strikewhile others suffered significant delays, of the order of 45 minutes for each flight over French territory.
Again, the social movement had been launched to demand salary increases in the face of inflation, but also an acceleration of hiring.
