Making human urine a new yellow gold. You had to think about it, Toopy Organics did it. This Gironde-based greentech has developed Lactopi Start, a human urine-based fertilizer to cultivate microorganisms. This product received the favorable opinion of ANSES for its launch in France and of European organizations for its commercialization in Belgium, Greece, Spain, Italy and Portugal.
Every year, Europeans reject 240 billion litres. 6,000 billion liters of drinking water are needed to be discharged and evacuated to treatment plants, which require a lot of energy to operate.
Efad or festive urine
In fact, this raw material naturally rich in nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium is found everywhere. Toopy is supplied at festivals, concert halls, service stations or nursing homes, in short, in all those places where the public rejects hectoliters of liquid. This urine often contains alcohol or chemicals. Before being processed, they are stabilized and then sanitized.
Avoid sewage treatment plants
The price is the other interest of this innovation. The raw material is recovered free of charge from the companies that install urinals at events and that must pay the discharge to the road sewage treatment plants.
Toopy begins to market his product. It already employs 21 people and processes 2 million liters of urine in its factory. It plans to create twenty factories in the next 5 years to collect nearly 4 million liters of raw material by 2027.
