Another collateral damage from Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. This Monday, the firm Yum Brands, owner of the KFC brand, announced on Monday that it had reached an agreement to sell all its restaurants specializing in fried chicken in Russian territory, reports Reuters.

These will be sold to a local operator, Smart Service Ltd, which is already run by Russian KFC franchisees. The managers, Konstantin Yurievich Kotov and Andrey Eduardovich Oskolkov, will thus have the task of changing the names of the restaurants while keeping the employees already hired.
As indicated in The Moscow Times, the 1000 KFC restaurants in Russia will gradually be renamed “Rostic’s”. Yum Brands, which also owns the Pizza Hut brand, had previously sold the rights to the famous pizzeria in Russia.
KFC’s departure from Russia is the final point in the closure of many Western brands since the start of the Kremlin’s “special military operation” on February 24. Last May, the fast food chain McDonald’s announced the closure of its 850 restaurants in the country. The channel has since reopened in June under the name “Vkusno i Tochka”.
For its part, the Starbucks franchise was renamed “Stars Coffee” by its new owner, a pro-Putin rapper.
