Legislative: Mayor believes PFN program risks causing “a financial crisis”

The Minister of the Economy warns of “three major risks” following the legislative elections, the most immediate of which, according to him, is “the economic decline of France.”

“This is excellent news.” In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday 8 July, Bruno Le Maire welcomed the mobilisation of the French to counter the National Rally during the second round of the legislative elections. “France remains a France hostile to all discrimination and all distinctions between citizens,” the Minister of the Economy said happily.

However, he believes that the new composition of the National Assembly, dominated by the New Popular Front, “presents three major risks” that must be “avoided.” “The most immediate risk is a financial crisis and the economic decline of France,” warns Bruno Le Maire, stating that the implementation of the New Popular Front programme “would destroy the results of the policy we have pursued for seven years and which gave France jobs, attractiveness and factories.

The Bercy resident also fears the “risk of an ideological fracture of the nation” which can only be avoided by giving “answers to the anger and legitimate concerns of our fellow citizens, in particular the 10 million people who voted in favour of the national demonstration”. He calls for “acting differently”, “listening, hearing, responding without delay, involving all the forces of the nation. Otherwise, we will head straight for a blockade and a crisis of the regime. This is the ultimate risk”, he explains.

“France can no longer remain a spectator of these riots”

In light of the result of the presidential majority which came second and lost a significant number of seats, Bruno Le Maire called for “great humility” and a “return to reality” while “the forces of the National Assembly are dispersed.”

“After the general elections, the world remains unchanged. There remains the war in Ukraine, the conflict in the Middle East, fierce economic and technological competition between nations, the acceleration of global warming. France cannot continue to be a spectator of these upheavals. It must be a major player,” the Minister of the Economy continues.

And to call on “all political forces that believe in the market economy, in the recovery of public finances, in the energy transition, in European construction and in the impeccable restoration of the authority of the State” to “free ourselves from their partisan interests, to pursue the essential transformation of our economic and social model and to assert our power.” Because “France’s place in the 21st century is now at stake.”
