How to make wise use of the paid vacation you have left until summer 2025

By taking 15 days of leave around the public holidays in 2024-2025, an employee will be able to benefit from extended weekends and holidays, for a total of 41 days of rest.

In a few days, many employees will be returning to work. While some will undoubtedly feel a sense of nostalgia when thinking about their vacation spot, others will try to escape the blues of returning to the office by already planning their next getaway.

Which is not a bad idea. Because in order to enjoy the longest possible rest periods in the coming months, all without using up too much of your vacation days, it is a good idea to look ahead by consulting the 2024-2025 calendar.

Let’s take the case of an employee who benefits from 25 days of leave per year to be taken between 1 June and 31 May of the following year. Assuming that this employee’s main summer leave lasted the legal minimum, i.e. 12 working days (10 days of paid leave), he or she has 15 days left until the end of May 2025. With these 15 days, he or she could benefit from a total of 41 days of leave.

• November: 2 days divided into two 4-day weekends

To do this, it will be necessary to take some time off around the holidays. Starting from November 1st, which this year falls on a Friday. Therefore, it is possible to take a day off, Thursday October 31st or Monday November 4th, to take advantage of a long weekend. Regarding November 11th, which falls on a Monday, it will be necessary to take Friday the 8th or Tuesday the 12th to have four consecutive days off.

• December-January: 6 days off for 12 consecutive days off

However, it is in December when employees will be most interested in taking several days off, with Wednesday 25 December and 1 January being public holidays. In this case, they can set aside 6 (Thursday 26 December, Friday 27, Monday 30, Tuesday 31, Thursday 2 January, Friday 3) to benefit from 12 days of vacation. If they have the possibility, they can also take Monday 23 and Tuesday 24, which would make a total of 8 days off for 16 days of rest.

• April: 4 days off for a 9-day vacation

In 2025, Easter Monday will fall on April 21. Enough to give yourself a full week of vacation by taking four days off from the 22nd to the 25th, including the weekends of the 19th and 26th, making a total of 9 consecutive days off.

• May: 3 days divided into 3 weekends of 4 days

If you follow this plan, the employee will still have 3 days of paid leave, which he can use in May. First, by setting aside a day on Friday 2nd. As Thursday 1st is a public holiday, this will allow him to benefit from a 4-day long weekend. Then you will have to apply the same method by setting aside a day on Friday 9th (Thursday 8th is a public holiday) and Friday 30th, just after Ascension Thursday.
